Playback Workshop Theatre’s production of beautiful resistance will premiere at the Xavier Hall Theatre on the campus of Saint Louis University on July 11th, with subsequent performances on the 12th and 13th; Friday and Saturday performances are at 8pm, and the Sunday performance is at 3pm. Suggested donation of $10; all proceeds will benefit Al-Rowwad Children’s Theatre in Bethlehem. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
beautiful resistance uses audience participation, improvisation, live music, as well as photos and videos shot in the West Bank, to give a new and personal perspective on the complicated issue of Israel’s occupation of Palestine. During beautiful resistance, we meet Skipper, a moon-walking Hamas fighter, and Fayrouz, a boy-crazy college girl living in the volatile world of Balata Refugee Camp. Their stories, and others, are told from the perspective of the narrator, a young St. Louisan who had never left the United States, nor considered herself an activist, prior to her trip to Palestine.
[beautiful resistance contains moderate violence and strong language; viewing is not recommended for children under the age of 12.]
