When racist remarks and attitudes surface in the classroom, the ability to respond effectively does more to create an atmosphere of geniune multiculturalism than all the books on the subject.

The Playback Workshop Theatre is thrilled to be working with Character Plus to bring together a workshop that will offer instruction and practice in dealing with unsettling situations that can arise among diverse populations.  Topics will include...

• Cultural competency
• Multiculturalism: what it is and what it isn't
• Sensory and interpretive skills
• Theatre for Social Change techniques for the classroom
• Approaches that allow you to accurately read the situation
• Sculpting and the active exploration of classroom experiences through images
• Non-violent, de-escalating communication techniques to use in the moment
• Playback Theatre: recreating real-life situations that you can practice on
• Collaborative reflection and discussion of practical applications for students
